Aireys of Kendal

Airey's Tobacconists has been a fixture on the Kendal high street for many years. It was first opened by Alan Airey and his wife back in the early 1980's, when they relocated from Liverpool.

Always keen to support local businesses and sell local products, he was supported by the town's mint cake makers and Gawith Hoggarth & Co. The shop became the only specialised tobacconists in the town and local area and boasted the title of the world famous Kendal Mint Cake shop'.

In 2004 the Airey's retired and sold the shop to Peter Baxter, who continued to supply a large range of Gawith tobaccos. Unfortunately due to ill health Peter had to close down the shop and in 2025 Gawith's purchased the premises, ensuring the continuation of Airey's as the famous Kendal Loose Tobacco shop.

The shop is currently undergoing refurbishment and we do not have a time line as to when it will re-open but we will be sure to keep you updated on progress.
